Tree Craft

I took over this business’ website in November 2014 after the previous webmaster had moved country; this meant I had to very quickly migrate the domain and web storage systems back under the internal control of the company. I used Serif WebPlus X8 to create this first rendition of the website; there was no support for responsive design in this software back then so I had to create two separate versions of the website to ensure compatibility on mobile devices. Though it was double the amount of work and (by today’s standards) resulted in a slightly awkward experience, I learned lots from doing it.

Creating this next-generation version of the website also allowed me the opportunity to expand the business’ online social presence across Facebook and Google+ (which is no longer available), as well as put it on mapping & discovery services such as Google Maps, Apple Maps and Yelp where it previously did not exist. This required me to upscale the logo so that it was clearer for use on these profiles, as well as additional info-graphics.

Over the years as I became more comfortable and confident redesigning areas of the website, I would do the following:

  • Make the switch to a free responsive web-design application called Mobirise, which the site still uses to this day.

  • Rebuild the website multiple times from scratch after major updates to the Mobirise application were released to ensure new functionality and bug fixes were applied.

  • Installed SSL certificate.

  • Created a new navigation structure that was easier to understand and follow for visitors.

  • An updated ‘Services’ area which contained information about the services that can be provided, as well as a photo gallery of each.

  • An updated ‘Testimonials’ area which contained new reviews, as well as the ability to leave your own testimonial.

  • Add contact form as well as create a privacy policy + cookie notice to provide transparency and ensure compliance with Data Protection Act (1998).

Not specific to the website, I also developed and carried out a new social media strategy for the business that put an emphasis on posting photo and video content of the jobs we were doing on-site as part of the business’ output. This included before-and-after photographs of the work we performed, behind-the-scenes content and GoPro videos that showed the work being carried out from our perspective. This content was all well received and achieved the business’ aim of increased online engagement.

This is an employment role that I started carrying out in 2014.
